Back at the Sandspit

I spent a couple of hours yesterday morning hiding and watching birds at Stockton Sandspit. It's an awesome spot to see shorebirds as long as you time your visit with the tide. I turned up before the sun came up and picked out a nice uncomfortable spot to lay on and waited for some birds to come in. A bit of a mixed bag of birds, but a great morning and a few cool photos were taken.

Birds of note on the Sandspit were...

Eastern Great Egret
Little Egret
Striated Heron
White-faced Heron
Pelican
Sacred Ibis
Silver Gull
Crested Tern
Gull-billed Tern
Common Tern
Red-capped Plover
Red-necked Stint
Pied Oystercatcher
Eastern Curlew
Whimbrel
Black-winged Stilt
Bar-tailed Godwit
Black Cormorant

There was prawn on the menu just off the beach and many birds were enjoying a seafood breakfast, with the Gulls and Terns dive bombing repeatedly for the little treats.
After leaving the Sandspit I drove a little further down the Hunter river to an old wreck that is popular with Pacific Golden Plovers at high tide. I found one PGP and three Grey-tailed Tattlers enjoying the rusty roosting spot before I headed home.
