Today saw the second of my two new birds so I will start with it first. Flushed this Latham's Snipe while trying to get a better shot of a White-necked Heron. This guy must have only just got in from his migration but I am glad he stopped by for me to see him 'at work'
The next, or first tick was a Southern Boobook taken in Newcastle near the John Hunter Hospital. No idea if this is a nest hollow or just a roost but there were two Owls in the same area and this one stayed in the hole. To play it safe, we got a couple of shots and left them alone. I was happy just to see it, so no point stressing them out and disrupting hunting etc.
So the migrants are back! good one lucky
ReplyDeleteand cool shot of the boobook.
well done, mate..
cheers,
steve
Good to get a snipe in the open. They're so wary, except when actively feeding. Then, they'll sometimes tolerate a person to walk up quite close.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 2 new ticks.
