2 new ticks

Today saw the second of my two new birds so I will start with it first. Flushed this Latham's Snipe while trying to get a better shot of a White-necked Heron. This guy must have only just got in from his migration but I am glad he stopped by for me to see him 'at work'

The next, or first tick was a Southern Boobook taken in Newcastle near the John Hunter Hospital. No idea if this is a nest hollow or just a roost but there were two Owls in the same area and this one stayed in the hole. To play it safe, we got a couple of shots and left them alone. I was happy just to see it, so no point stressing them out and disrupting hunting etc.

  2. Good to get a snipe in the open. They're so wary, except when actively feeding. Then, they'll sometimes tolerate a person to walk up quite close.
